Commskills.org is a free, internet-based compilation of resources in the field of communication skills. The site is divided into 6 categories including: Communication Skills, Writing Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Organizational Communication, Soft Skills and Other.
The final 'other' section houses links to other distributors, publishers and organizations that provide Communication resources in physical formats (video, print) and web-based format.
These are further divided into approximately 40 sub categories each with 20-40 resources. The resources selected for this portal encompass a broad range of types including books, educational institution pages, commercial providers, videos, libraries and more.
Who is behind Commskills.org?
The database of links providing the content of Commskills.org was originally created by Communications Author and Lecturer at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia - Baden Eunson. The design and development of the site was done by James Eunson as a project of James Eunson Design. The search page is a javascript application built from the ground up, based on similar applications (most notably Google Suggest.)
With the development of the third version of Commskills.org, the site is now to some extent maintainable by the users, in that no longer functioning links can be identified and quickly addressed by the administrator.
Brief History of the Site
Commskills.org was originally created in 2003 as a central point for communications resources on the internet. Since its inception it has attracted many thousands of visitors per month and become an important site for Communications professionals everywhere.
The second iteration of the site was created in 2006, bringing with it usability improvements and a revamped user interface. The start of 2009 heralds another complete overhaul, with a greater degree of user interaction, including user determinations of the quality of content with a vote system and user maintenance.
